Today I'm here to talk about my book (Vol. I), well, Rules of Play: Game Design Fundamentals (The MIT Press) (RoP), by Katie Salen and Eric Zimmerman.
1️⃣How to use RoP in the education sector? I recommend RoP to teachers or researchers who want to start gamification and:
♦️Prepare gamified teaching materials (digital or analog) and gamified environments (in the sense of various materials that complement each other through playful resources).
♦️️Create educational video games.
♦️Apply playful methodologies in class such as game-based learning or gamification in the classroom.
♦️Integrating playful elements into methodologies to maximize their impact on the student and effectiveness in results, such as project-based learning; collaborative learning and team games; experiential learning; self-directed learning, etc.
♦️Adapt game resources to recreational tools, such as virtual learning environments (LMS), teaching websites or blogs, knowledge transmission videos, etc.
2️⃣What did it mean in my case? Without a doubt, it has been my bedside academic book during the development of my doctoral thesis. Among its pages I found a perfect method to (re)define what is a game, a videogame and an educational videogame, consult the classics and their positions on these concepts and, above all, illustrate my path with numerous examples of real experiences of the games and video games industry and the academic area.
I hope you enjoy it😍 as much as I did, but I doubt you'll get as much juice out of it💦 as I did😜.
